Calling All Bi’s – Get Your Dating Game On

So, you’ve figured out that you are bisexual. You are open to sex and/or romance with your own gender and the too. You’re part of a growing population of women and men in the LGBTQ community who claim this identity.

And good for you. Bisexual people have gotten a bad rep in the past. Those who don’t understand multiple genders and sexualities believe that bi people are just trying to get attention. Others believe they are simply promiscuous and will have sex with anyone in a skirt or pants; and still others say bisexual people are temporarily confused and will ultimately come to their senses and be their normal selves.

Bisexuality Throughout History

Yes, there were bisexuals from ancient times forward.

But the term bisexual was first used by a Dutch anthropologist in 1877 to describe hermaphrodites – people born with both male and female genitals and who were thus non binary. This was far before the time of doctors and parents making a gender decision with surgery to follow.

Early in the 20th century, psychologists began to use the word to refer to people who were sexually attracted to both genders. And while bisexuality was not placed on the American Psychological Association list of mental disorders, homosexuality was. So, if cis men or women acted upon their bisexuality, maybe they suffered a mental disorder when they engaged in homosexual sex? Go figure!

By the late 20th century, homosexuality was removed from the “list” of mental disorders, and being bisexual came to mean a physical and/or romantic attraction to both genders, whether it was acted upon or not.

And that brings us to another misconception. People can be bisexual but not act upon those attractions. Bisexual men or women may be in long-term relationships with opposite or same genders, have attractions for the other gender, and never act upon that attraction, choosing to be monogamous with their partners.

Single bisexuals will obviously be interested in the dating scene. And that dating scene has certainly evolved since the days of looking for romantic and/or sexual partners on the ground in their own neighborhoods – that can be pretty limiting.

Bisexual Dating for Singles

Over the past 4 decades, dating for everyone, straight or not, has gone online. And why not? There are a bunch of benefits of using online dating apps and apps:

  • “Try Before You Buy”: Online dating lets a person connect with other singles and get to know them before they decide if an IRL date would be a good idea.
  • Good on the Budget: Dating takes time and money. Online dating is free or at least lots cheaper than in-person dating. No expenditure until a person thinks it’s worth it.
  • Anytime, Anywhere: With a mobile device and an internet connection, bisexual singles can “date” on their own time and from wherever they happen to be, 24 hours a day.

The only question bi women and bi guys have to answer now is what are the best bisexual dating sites for them to hook into to find the dating relationships they want – men with other men or women and vice versa.

Good question: There are several that bisexual singles should check out, depending on what they are looking for in bisexual casual or more intimate relationships with a long-term partner who might be straight, gay, or lesbian. Possibilities for bisexual dating are almost endless.

Check out the ones we think are the best dating apps and sites for the diverse bisexual community.
